5 February 2014,

Scout Families,

Please join us on February 15th at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church for the Blue and Gold Banquet! The Blue and Gold Banquet is the birthday celebration of Cub Scouting. This is one of the most exciting events our Pack puts on each year.

Scales & Tales

This year, we will have a presentation by Scales & Tales. Scales & Tales is an environmental education program of the Maryland Park Service. This informative and entertaining program uses live non-releasable birds of prey and reptiles to promote stewardship of our wildlife and other natural resources. Maryland people get the opportunity to see live wildlife, mostly native to Maryland, up close and personal.

This program will be followed by a very special awards ceremony for rank advancement with emphasis on our 5th grade Webelos 2’s bridging over to Boy Scouts. There will be representatives from the Boy Scout troops that the Webelos 2’s have chosen to join who will accept them into their troops.

Arrow of Light

The awards ceremony will be followed by a potluck dinner. The Pack provides beverages. We ask that you please sign up to bring a main dish or a side. Here is a link to Sign Up Genius so that you can RSVP what you are bringing. This allows you to see what others are bringing and hopefully will prevent too many duplicates of dishes for a greater variety. If you do not already have a free Sign Up Genius account, it will prompt you to do so when you RSVP.

Don’t forget about the Dad and Lad Cake Contest at our upcoming Blue and Gold Dinner

Another special part of the Blue and Gold Banquet is our Dad and Lad Cake Contest! With any adult helper (does not have to be Dad), your son can make and bake a cake to enter into the contest. First, Second and Third place ribbons will be awarded in the following categories:

1. Best Scout theme (anything pertaining to Scouts. Think camping, Pinewood Derby, etc)

2.Best Wildlife theme (to go along with our Scales & Tales presentation)

3. Most Creative cake

The rules for the Dad and Lad Cake Contest are as follows:

  • 1. The Cub must do a majority of the work involved in planning, creating and decorating their cake.
  • 2. Cake mixes may be used.
  • 3. Entire cake MUST be entirely edible, including ALL decorations (no toothpicks, plastic figures, etc.)
  • 4. HAVE FUN!

After judging, which is usually done by the Boy Scout leaders, and the ribbons have been awarded, the cakes will be cut and serve as our dessert!

The Blue and Gold Banquet is our most formal event of the year. We encourage all Cub Scouts to wear their Class A uniform to this event. If ever there were a time to wear your full uniform, this would be it! If you do not have the Class A uniform, your son may wear the Class B T-shirt. This is a whole family event. Siblings are welcome!

We look forward to seeing you there!
